Two BA Economics Grads Receive Prestigious Scholarships

December 10, 2013 | Tagged: Awards, News, scholarships, Students, Vancouver School of Economics, VSE

Congratulations to Jefferey Mitchell and Krisha Lim!

Jefferey is the 2012/13 recipient of both a Premier Undergraduate Scholarship and a Wesbrook Scholarship; specifically, the Harry Logan Memorial Scholarship and the Harold B. & Nellie Boyes Memorial Scholarship. Together the award is valued at $7,300. Jefferey graduated from the Faculty of Arts in 2013 with majors in international relations and economics.

Krisha receives a $1,000 scholarship and the Wesbrook Scholar designation, through the Wesbrook Scholarship fund. Krisha graduated in 2013 with a major in economics and minor in international relations.

“The Vancouver School of Economics is very proud of Jefferey and Krisha’s achievements,” says Professor Hugh Neary, BA Economics Program Coordinator and the School’s Associate Director. “We offer them our warmest congratulations on winning these very prestigious scholarships.”

The Premier Undergraduate Scholarships and Wesbrook Scholars are very prestigious designations, given to senior students with outstanding academic performance, leadership, and involvement in student and community activities. In 2012/13, 88 nominations were received from programs campus-wide for the scholarship funds. Of those, only 20 Wesbrook Scholar and 10 Premier Undergraduate Scholarships were awarded.

The list of awards won by UBC Bachelor of Arts in Economics students is numerous, including:

  • 6 Governor General Silver Medals in Arts since 2001
  • 1 Governor General Silver Medal in APSC 2012 (dual degree student)
  • 6 Wesbrook Scholars since 2003
  • 1 Rhodes Scholarship 2006
  • 1 UBC Leader of Tomorrow Award 2010
  • 1 Arts Co-Op Student of Year Award 2011/2012

The Vancouver School of Economics gratefully thanks the donors who made these awards possible. Interested in supporting our economics students? Please click here to donate.
