Economics Student Behrooz Ghorbani Receives Wesbrook Scholarship

February 13, 2014 | Tagged: Awards, News, Students, Vancouver School of Economics, VSE

Congratulations to VSE student Behrooz Ghorbani, who is a 2013/2014 recipient of the Wesbrook Scholarship!

The scholarships are UBC’s most prestigious student designations, given to senior students with outstanding academic performance, leadership, involvement in student and community activities, and, in some instances, participation in sports.

Behrooz is a fourth-year BA student, completing a double major in Economics and Mathematics.

“I am extremely proud of Behrooz and impressed by his accomplishments,” says Assistant Professor Joshua Gottlieb, who has been Behrooz’s supervisor for the past year.  “Behrooz performs outstanding work, comes up with creative solutions to difficult problems, and is deeply committed to his research.  His performance merits UBC’s highest honors and I congratulate him on this well-deserved award.”

The list of awards won by UBC Bachelor of Arts in Economics students is numerous, including:

  • 6 Governor General Silver Medals in Arts since 2001
  • 1 Governor General Silver Medal in APSC in 2012 (dual degree student)
  • 7 Wesbrook Scholars since 2003
  • 1 Rhodes Scholarship  in 2006
  • 3 International Leader of Tomorrow Awards since 2010
  • 1 Arts Co-Op Student of Year Award in 2011/2012

The Vancouver School of Economics gratefully thanks the donors who made these awards possible. Interested in supporting our economics students? Please click here to donate.
